CEAC's Accomplishments

For a small group, CEAC has used its dedicated volunteer spirit to accomplish many things. Here are some of the things of which we are most proud.

Cochrane Farmer’s Market
CEAC has been increasingly involved in the operation of the Cochrane Farmer’s Market, which has grown in popularity with both vendors and shoppers alike over the years. It features a wide range of products from fruit and vegetables, meat, baked goods, plants, crafts and furniture, all from regional vendors.
The Market runs weekly on Saturday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The market opens on June 7th. For vendor inquiries, please contact Chris at (403) 932-5963.

Brownfield Committee
The Brownfield Committee was formed to oversee and ensure clean up of the former Domtar Lands in Cochrane. CEAC members have been active on this committee since it’s inception.

LID Conference
October 18 - 20, 2006
This conference provided opportunities to gain greater understanding of low impact development concepts from a number of speakers across Canada. The conference was the first major conference at the Cochrane Ranche and was made possible through a partnership with CEAC, the Town, Alberta Low Impact Development Partnership, and Aquality Inc.

Branches and Banks
CEAC has been a sponsor of this event since it started in 1996. Our members have also helped plant some of the 32,000 trees that have been planted around Cochrane in that time.  We would like to congratulate Branches and Banks on winning an Alberta Emerald Award for 2003 in the Community Group category.

Naturscaping Workshops
One of CEAC’s initiatives is pesticide reduction. To date, the group has sponsored two Naturscaping workshops with that goal in mind. These workshops are to help promote the many alternatives available for healthy lawns and gardens, as well as a healthy environment.

Birds & Beans
Birds & Beans were fun, educational evenings, combining display booths and presentations to highlight the effects of agriculture on wildlife, particularly in this instance of coffee plantations on migratory songbirds.

Let’s Drive Green Vehicle Emissions Inspection Clinic

The 2004 Cochrane LET'S DRIVE GREEN clinic was a great success! With support and participation of more than 11 volunteers, we tested 51 vehicles. Of those vehicles tested 39 (76.5%) passed the emissions test, while 6 (11.6%) exceeded either the HC or CO limits of the idle emissions test. The participants of this clinic learned how to reduce the level of harmful emissions they emit. This is significant because automobiles release millions of tons of pollutants into the atmosphere. In fact, they represent one of the largest sources of air pollution in Canada. The LET'S DRIVE GREEN Vehicle Emissions Testing Clinic included three tests: tire pressure, gas cap seal and tailpipe emissions
